Roosevelt versus Hoover

Points in favour Hoover

Hoover was going to lower taxes.
He also promised an economic turnaround.

Roosevelt versus Hoover

Points in favour of Roosevelt.

Roosevelt was actually going to do something about the great depression.
He was disabled from polio and so many people though he understood what it was like to suffer.
Roosevelt was going to set up job schemes for the unemployed and poor.
He promised to end Prohibition.
He wasn’t in power when the crash happened so didn’t take the blame for the great depression.
Roosevelt called these polices “A New Deal” and he promised them to the American people.

Hoover’s promises had failed as he promised wealth in 1928 and “two cars in every garage and a chicken in every pot” but then the Wall Street Crash happened. He took the majority of the blame. “In Hoover we trusted, but now we are busted” was a slogan of bankrupt working Americans.
