Why was Prohibition introduced?

In 1920 the Volstead Act made it a criminal offence to make, import, buy or sell alcohol in the USA.

Why was Prohibition introduced

Some people were claiming that alcohol leads to murder, fever, cholera and other diseases. Some people tried to frighten people by saying that alcohol is cursed by God.

The dries argued that alcohol causes ¾ of crime and half the insanity in the community and therefore filling the prisions.

Another argument is that a small amount of alcohol can kill dogs, cats and even people, especially children.

Some businesses said that with alcohol the workforce was not as efficient. So sometimes, it was just a “matter of dollars and cents”.

Why do you think Prohibition was introduced?
