Why was Prohibition repealed in December 1933?
Here are some of the reasons why the American government was force to repeal the Prohibition Act of 1920.

St Valentines Day Massacre of 1929. Seven of the Bugs Moran Gang were shot by Al Capone’s gang.
There was a high demand for alcohol.
Corrupt police and politicians.
Police sometimes escorted bootleggers.
There were 136 gang related killings in Chicago within the first 5 years and yet there was only 1 conviction.
Beer Wars – different gangs fighting for the liquor trade.
In 1928 there were 367 murders in beer wars.
In 1929 Pauline Sabin launched the National Women’s organisation for Prohibition reform. She got 100000 members in weeks as she was a respectable middle class lady.
Home-made liquor wasn’t safe and people were dying from poor quality drink or suffering from things like blindness. 215 people were killed in Chicago from poor quality liquor.
No age limit on alcohol so young people could drink.
1929 Wall Street Crash.
If alcohol was taxed then the money could be used to provide jobs for the unemployed.
The argument that had made America more efficient was flawed as its economy was in ruins.
